What is the socialist approach to parliament?
4:15pm Sat 19 AprAbout this session
Generations of socialists have tried to change society through parliament, a strategy known as reformism. Yet, time and again, these reformist socialists have ended up selling out to the capitalists and carrying out anti-working class measures, including supporting imperialist wars. But does that mean it is unprincipled for revolutionary socialists, who prioritise mass working class struggle and deny that parliament can be a forum for far-reaching socialist reforms, to run for parliament under any circumstances? This talk will discuss situations where revolutionaries have used elections and parliamentary positions as a platform to advocate for socialism, to disrupt the consensus-building process of bourgeois elections and to build faith in the working class and the possibility of a world organised for human need.
