The middle classes and their outsized influence
11:45am Sun 20 Aprmelbourne
About this session
The two main classes under capitalism are the capitalists and the working class. However, the middle class—journalists, academics, small-town mayors, businessmen, and, historically, the clergy—also shapes society through its influence on ideology. Their class point of view can influence the working class, especially when the working class is less organised and middle-class aspirations are widespread. They are a key support base for capitalist parties.
