Shut it down: The Australian anti-capitalist movement of the 2000s
10:00am Sun 20 Aprmelbourne
About this session
The period from 1999-2001 was the height of what was variously known as the global justice, anti-globalisation or anti-capitalist movement. The high point of resistance in Australia came in September 2000 when 20,000 people showed up at Melbourne's Crown Casino complex and faced down thousands of police to successfully shut down the World Economic Forum. This talk will explore the anti-capitalist movement in Australia and the role that Socialist Alternative played.
