From revolution to barbarism: Revisiting the Lebanese Civil War
2:15pm Fri 18 Aprmelbourne
About this session
In the early stages of the Lebanese Civil War of 1975-90, it seemed that revolutionary Lebanese students and workers could link up with fighters of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) to transform Lebanon and provide a launchpad for the liberation of Palestine. But thanks in large part to the brutal military interventions by Syria and Israel, the revolution turned into a terrible civil war that ended in a stalemate and the PLO's exile to Tunisia. What went wrong, and was there an alternative? All are welcome for a discussion.
