From revolution to barbarism: Revisiting the Lebanese Civil War

2:15pm Sun 20 Apr
melbourne

About this session

In the early stages of the Lebanese Civil War of 1975-90, it seemed that revolutionary Lebanese students and workers could link up with resistance across the Middle East to transform Lebanon and provide a launchpad for Arab liberation. But thanks in large part to brutal military interventions by surrounding states, the revolution turned into a terrible civil war that ended in a stalemate and the PLO's exile to Tunisia. What went wrong, and was there an alternative? All are welcome for a discussion.
