Explaining the capitalist state

2:15pm Fri 18 Apr
melbourne

About this session

The structures that make up the capitalist state - parliament, police, the legal system, the education system and more - enforce the interests of the rich. Marxists argue this goes beyond corporate lobbying, political donations, racist policing or unequal laws. This session will touch on some of the core debates in the socialist tradition: Is the capitalist state really democratic? Is it possible to reform the state to make it run in the interests of workers? And what does it mean to "smash" the state?
