A Marxist critique of Third Worldism
7:00pm Sat 19 Aprmelbourne
About this session
Third-worldist theory argues that the key divide in world capitalism is between the nations of the Global North and the Global South and that the only consistently revolutionary force in the world are anti-imperialist states. Third-Worldism has been an influential idea amongst much of the radical left for decades and has revived with new wars in the Middle East. However, Third-Worldism suffers from fundamental problems; it ignores the class divides within both the Global South and North, which are vital for understanding the nature of modern capitalism and the potential for resistance by the global working class of all nations.
