The Russian Revolution is the closest that the world has ever come to achieving socialism. Its history is often mistold, portrayed as a coup by Lenin and his co-conspirators. In reality, it was a mass uprising led by Russian workers which brought about new democratic institutions, wrenching power over society out of the hands of a wealthy minority and placing it into those of the oppressed. Although it was eventually crushed, it carries lessons for those who want to fight capitalism today.
