About this session
'The siege of the Nicholson Street Nazis’ (Melbourne 1971)
This session features original research by Vashti Fox on anti-fascist organising in Melbourne in the 1970s. In response to attempts by the National Socialist Party of Australia to establish an organising centre in the city a coalition of Maoist radicals and Jewish activists began an often controversial campaign to shut them down. The session will explore the politics of the organisers, debates in and between them and ultimately draw some lessons for challenging far right organisations today.
