A balance sheet on new reformism: the rise and fall of Sanders and Corbyn
About this session
Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn both tapped into a mood for change in an increasingly unequal 21st century capitalism. Now the political projects they inspired have ended in defeat and accommodation. Sanders loyally backed the neoliberal warmonger Joe Biden in the US elections and Corbyn has been disciplined by his own party under the false accusation of anti-Semitism. The thousands of left-wing activists they inspired are now confused and demoralised by this outcome.
This session will unpack the failures of the Sanders and Corbyn projects and discuss the important questions about political strategy and the limits of reformist and left liberal politics that it raises.
