Introduced by Lebanese-Australian socialist and editor of the journal Marxist Left Review, Omar Hassan.
The Middle East has been rocked by revolutionary struggle in recent years, as activists have fought to overthrow their dictatorships. The movements for change have inspired millions across the region and the world, and have seen longstanding leaders and social divisions overcome. Yet revolutionaries have faced enormous difficulties in achieving their twin goals of freedom and social justice, with ruling classes using a variety of tactics to crush, coopt or divert their struggles. This session will explore these experiences and draw some lessons for activists fighting for a better world.
