Migrant farm workers speak out
melbourne
About this session
Australia’s multi-billion dollar farm industry is powered by the labour of hundreds of thousands of workers – many of them migrants on a huge variety of visas, or no visas at all. The United Workers Union has been leading a concerted effort to organise these workers.
This session will feature first hand accounts of work in the fields and packing sheds that produce our food (and colossal profits), and the extraordinary efforts of migrant farm works to organise effective unions. One of the most important stories in the Australian labour movement today.
