Introduced by Brisbane socialist activist Vishnupriya De.
India is home to the world’s largest and longest operating fascist organisation - the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. The Bharatiya Janata Party, the parliamentary wing of Hindu nationalism, secured an overwhelming majority in the 2019 Indian elections, winning 353 seats as compared to 53 for their primary opposition the Indian National Congress. They boast 180 million members, run schools attended by millions, as well as controlling trade unions, media outlets and a variety of charities. This session at Marxism Conference will discuss the politics of Hindu nationalism, and how it fits into the rise of the global far right.
